Dr. Laura Hernandez, M.D., is a highly dedicated and skilled physician who is deeply committed to providing exceptional medical care to her patients. Born with an innate drive to serve others, Dr. Hernandez has dedicated her life to healthcare, family, and community service. She is a proud mother, reflecting her strong belief in the importance of family and community bonds.

Educational Background:

Dr. Hernandez’s medical journey began at Ross University School of Medicine, Dominica, where she studied from January 2004 to December 2004. She then continued her medical education at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) School of Medicine in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from January 2005 to June 2009. Her commitment to serving underserved areas led her to complete her internship at Hospital San Cristobal from July 2012 to June 2013. Dr. Hernandez honed her skills in Family Medicine during her residency at Lonesome Pine Hospital, deeply rooted in the Appalachian region, from July 2020 to June 2023, highlighting her dedication to serving communities in need.

Licenses and Certifications:

A multilingual physician, Dr. Hernandez is fluent in Spanish and English and has intermediate proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). She holds medical licenses in Puerto Rico, Florida, and Virginia. Her extensive certifications include being a Certified Lactation Educator and holding certifications in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), and Basic Life Support (BLS).

Dr. Hernandez has a rich and diverse professional background. Her experience ranges from serving as an Emergency Room Physician at Small Hospital Innovations to primary and chronic care at Sanitas Medical Center and Indian Health Services. She has also contributed significantly to Correctional Health Service and Aguadilla Medical Services Urgent Care, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to providing care in various settings. Her tenure as a medical director in a rural area with UTC PHYSICIAN and as an ER physician at Hospital Buen Samaritano further showcases her adaptability and dedication.

Volunteer Work and Community Involvement:

Dr. Hernandez’s passion for helping her community extends beyond her professional duties. She was actively involved in children’s Special Olympics and has a rich history as a professional swimmer, participating in Masters competitions. Her volunteer work includes significant contributions to disaster relief during Hurricanes Irma and Maria and medical missions in Haiti following the devastating earthquake.
